The Nine Trinkets of Sparrow
Before the coming of the warriors and the large population of witches (at the time, there were only about fifty or so) was one witch whose gift was her ability to make magical items. There are many witches these days that were able to do such a thing, but this one had an extraordinary talent. She could make little trinkets and statues whose power wouldn’t wear off out be gone once the trinket was sold or misplaced.
The young witch was named “Sparrow” and was kicked from her last village because of the already large numbers of them there. While she was journeying to the slightly known witch town, she had made nine little trinkets along the way. Putting all of her anger and despair into the creation of each of them, they had come out to be at least ten times more powerful than her usual creations. The first was a small sparrow; it was carved out of piece of stone taken from her old house. The second was a bear, and the creature was carved from the monster she had met in the forest. It was made of a piece of wood from the willow tree that she had rested at. Third, a rabbit, carved from a rock in the lake that was nearby. Fourth was a fox, made from a piece of (what seemed to be) amber. Fifth, a cougar made of metal from a kind passerby who had given her the sword from which it came (she melted it down, and burnt herself in the process). Sixth, a hawk made of rocks that she had found at the base of the mountain (she was close to the town at that point). Seventh was a spider, which was the hardest yet due to the spindly legs. The spider was made of the silver from a necklace she had taken with her. Eighth was a wolf, made of regular rock. And last, but not least, a large stag who was made of a magical horn that she had received from Bellesang herself.
Later on, she was wed to a nice young fellow named William Hart. She found herself reluctant to leave the town now that she had gotten used to it, but did so. She gave all the trinkets she had made to her friends and set off.
Where the trinkets are now is a mystery, but whoever finds even one will be sure to have some sort of special magic, even after they are dead.
